Raleigh Pioneer 18
This bike is in great condition for it’s age (late 80’s) and was ‘Hand Built in Nottingham England’ before they shifted their production to Taiwan in the 90’s and and long before they were bought out. The bike is totally original and even comes with the original pump (not shown in pictures).
I originally got the bike for my son about three years ago, but he wanted a mountain bike and this was actually too good to give to him anyway ;).
Before I got it, the previous owner had it from new and hardly rode it, hence the condition and only two previous owners from new.
I have been using this as a ‘spare’ bike when my other bikes are in need of repair and it has not given me any issues.
It has served me well, but is slightly too small for me (21″ frame) and as I have too many bikes, I have decided to part with it.
As you can see from the pictures the paintwork is in remarkable condition, except for a few scratches (due to the way the cables are set up) and a chip on the crossbar.
The wheels are straight, the tyres are old but not perished and have loads of tread on them.
The gears and brakes are Shimano and are set up well (better than some of my more modern bikes!).
There is a slight bubbling of the paint on the levers, but paint is still intact.
The mudguards are particularly useful in the winter months as they reduce getting sprayed very well. They do show signs of age but are not cracked or broken, just the laquer is not good on the ends so they look ‘frosty’ this is purely cosmetic and does not retract from their functionality in any way.
The bike has a rear rack which is useful for panniers etc. it also has an elastic strap which still works but the elastic is stretched, could be replaced or just remove.
The teapot bell is optional !!
So in summary, a reliable good clean honest old genuine hand built bike which will give many more years of service.
